Welcome I am Miriam - a mother, food writer and home cook, writing quite literally from my kitchen table in central London.
My love of cooking comes from my late mother. When she died suddenly in 2021 it felt as though everything stopped. In the months that followed I found my way back to the kitchen slowly, and eventually to her recipes, her handwritten notes, chaotic cookbooks and the Kentish garden she had designed, planted and loved. Working through them was a way to feel close to her again. It reminded me that my instinct for food, for seasonality, for feeding the people I love all came from her.
That garden still feeds my kitchen. It has formal elements and bountiful produce, citrus trees that hark back to her childhood in Cape Town, an orchard and a vegetable garden her family continue to tend. When I am there I take it all in the season, what’s ready, what the table wants. It is the source of most of what I cook and write.
Notes from my Kitchen is my weekly newsletter. Every Friday a recipe and a letter lands in your inbox. It is rooted in the season, written for home cooks, and there is always a little of the story behind the recipe. I also post daily on Notes for shorter thoughts, finds and inspirations.
If you’re here because you want to slow down, cook something good and feel connected to the seasons and the people around you - you are very welcome at this table.
